Alba Velasquez

Healthy Neighborhood market network Director


Alba Maria Velasquez is the Healthy Neighborhood Market Network (HNMN) Program Director for the Los Angeles Food Policy Council. In this role, Alba oversees the administrative and programmatic activities involved with HNMN, including program planning and evaluation, reporting, and technical assistance to storeowners. She also serves as a key contributor for the COMPRA Foods program, a produce delivery service in collaboration with the Leadership for Urban Renewal Network (LURN) and API Forward Movement.

Alba has worked towards creating more livable and healthy communities through participatory planning and advocating for social, economic, and spatial justice in the built environment. For 3 years, she worked at National Health Foundation, where she oversaw their Nutrition Education Obesity Prevention grant and was involved in market makeover work with youth in South LA. She then led community wellness programs at Cedar Sinai.

Alba received her Masters of Urban Regional Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles where she worked on various community-mapping projects, including Cultivate Los Angeles, a comprehensive group report on urban agriculture in Los Angeles County. Alba holds a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
