Food Rescue Macro Grant

Informational Session Questions:

We are partners with the LA County food bank food rescue program and other food rescue programs. Do we qualify?

Project proposals must form a collaborative that shares a partnership agreement; The Managing Stakeholder must be a food recovery organization or a community based organization that has food recovery and/or distribution programming; Co-applicants are not required to be a FRO or CBO doing food recovery/distribution specific work, but must align with the mission and scope of the project proposal with clear roles and responsibilities. 

Could these funds be used to purchase a van for transporting produce, as well as other uses inline with the org's mission? 

Material goods are eligible for funding. Please keep in mind that it must be used for the purpose of the multi-stakeholder collaborative project. 

Is this funding opportunity reimbursement based?

Yes; 20% will be advanced, and reimbursement will be monthly provided an invoice is submitted in a timely manner to Rising Communities.

Are Title 1 schools eligible to be a partner?

Title 1 schools are not eligible to act as a managing stakeholder, but are allowed as co-applicants in a Collaborative. 

Who can submit reimbursements?

Only one organization will receive the grant funding. The managing stakeholder organization should submit the reimbursement before the 10th day of the following month to Rising Communities.  The managing stakeholder organization can then reimburse other coalition members per the approved contractual budget.

Does an online food pantry and meal program directory qualify for this grant?

Projects that focus on technological solutions that benefit the entire food recovery landscape in Los Angeles are qualifying projects, however, projects must be collaborative. 

Can a group that received the microgrant be a partner to a lead org for the macro?

Yes, the Micro and Macro applications are being considered independently from one another

Does an online food pantry and meal program directory qualify for this grant?

Are there any more specifics on qualifying organizations other than practicing food distribution? Regularity / reach, etc?

Collaborations and projects should focus on improvements to the food recovery system as a whole; food programs specifically supported by the project do not have specific programmatic requirements.

Can projects focused on value-add be eligible?

Projects can be focused on value-add as long as it isn’t earned income.

Can this funding support general operations?

This funding is specific to the project/collaboration delineated within the application. Funding is specific to operations of the proposed project. For example, if a project requires the use of office space, a portion of the office monthly rent/lease can be expensed as long as a reasonable justification for the use of the space is provided in the budget template.  Please note, should an application be accepted, the funding agency will review all budgets and will ask for budget revisions on any unallowable costs prior to contract execution.

Is there a specific form for the Signed Partnership Agreement/MOU?

You can use your own template, but we can provide a template agreement if needed that applicants can modify to be specific to the grant. 

Are organizations eligible if their food bank only benefits the clients we serve not open to the public?

Collaborations and projects should focus on improvements to the food recovery system as a whole; food programs specifically supported by the project do not have specific programmatic requirements.

Are national organizations allowed to be co-applicants (i.e. they do work in LA, but don’t necessarily have an LA address)?

National organizations are eligible as co-applicants so long as they have an office or chapter in the City or County of Los Angeles.
