About the event

Every urban farm or garden should have a clear action plan for on-site safety. From basic first aid to thoughtful conversations about protecting staff, volunteers, and visitors, farming always involves some level of risk — but much of that risk can be reduced with preparation and strong safety practices.

CRECE and the Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) are organizing a hands-on Urban Farm Safety & First Aid Training designed specifically for small-scale and urban farming environments. Our goal is to equip participants with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to build safer farm spaces. This training blends practical demonstrations, peer learning, and scenario-based exercises to support real-world preparedness.

Join us for this farmer-led workshop focused on actionable safety strategies. The session will feature hands-on first aid essentials, guidance on insurance considerations for urban growers, and a presentation from the OC Rapid Response Network on how to best protect and inform…

We reside, work, and cultivate food
on unceded Indigenous homelands.

We acknowledge and honor the descendants of the Tongva, Kizh, and Gabrieleño peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles Basin and the Southern Channel Islands). We pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.

As part of a greater foodshed, we would also like to pay respect to and honor the Chumash, Tataviam, Serrano, Kitanemuk, ʔíviĨuqaletem, Acjachemen, Payómkawichum, and any other tribal group possibly not mentioned. As a Food Policy Council for Los Angeles we recognize this land acknowledgment is limited and engagement is an ongoing process of learning and accountability.
